Iowa City, IowaLois B. Newton, age 72 of Iowa City died Saturday, August 12, 2006, at her home surrounded by her loving family and friends after a courageous battle with breast cancer.
Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, August 16, 2006, at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City with the Reverend Robert Gebel from Our Redeemer Lutheran Church officiating. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund have been established in her memory. Online condolences may be sent for her family through our website www.gayandciha.com.
Lois B. O’Harra Newton was born February 18, 1934, in Iowa City, the daughter of Marshall and Lillian (Browne) O’Harra. She graduated from Iowa City City High School with the class of 1952. For over twenty-eight years she worked at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics retiring in 1996 as the County Liaison. She later worked for Osco Drug in Iowa City for over five years. She was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Iowa City. Lois enjoyed traveling; the outdoors, fishing, camping,and being a most loyal Hawkeye fan; but by far, her grandchildren brought her the greatest joy in life.
Her family includes daughters, Debbie Fossum and her husband, Randy of Mt. Vernon, Laura Richou of Windsor, CO, and Jennifer Reynolds and her husband, Michael of Iowa City; grandchildren, Jim Wagner and his friend, Jenny Fisher, Riley Reynolds, and Faith Reynolds; special friend to Lois and her family, Al Gute of Solon; and Lois’s sister, Marietta Gill and her husband, Robert of Kalona.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister, Etta Mae O’Harra.
