James Kenneth Kelsey was born December 13, 1929, in Iowa City the son of Daniel C. and Mary T. (Nugent) Kelsey. He attended and graduated from St. Patrick’s High School in 1948, and later from the University of Iowa in 1964 with a degree in business. For a number of years he worked at the Veterans Hospitals in Iowa City and Des Moines, and also the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. In 1972 he moved to Quad Cities where he worked for the United States Postal Service until his retirement. He moved back to Iowa City in 1995, and then this past December he and his family returned to Davenport to live. To those who knew Jim, you knew his love for the outdoors, wildlife, fishing and Mother Nature. But his natural gifts as an artist were those that many will remember from his exhibits at art shows, the University Hospitals, and around the state. He was recognized for his work, and he loved to share his work with others.
His family includes a sister, Mildred Kelsey and a brother, Gene Kelsey both of Davenport, and many nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters.
Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for Jim’s family and his services.
