Iowa City, IowaKampha Butch Sourivong, age 20 of Iowa City died Saturday, September 30, 2006, while serving his country in the United States Army in Iraq.
Funeral services with Military Honors will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, October 8, 2006, in the Auditorium of City High School in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 4 to 7pm Saturday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Kampha’s memory.
Kampha was born March 21, 1986, in Iowa City, Iowa the son of Maliphone and Patty (Vasey) Sourivong. He has attended schools in Iowa City, attending City High School until the 10th. Grade and then attending and graduating from Iowa City West High School in 2004. At the age of 17 he enlisted with the Iowa National Guard’s Company C of the 1st Battalion 168th Infantry in Iowa City. He was called up to active service with the United States Army assigned to the 1st Battalion 133rd Infantry out of Waterloo, having served three years in service.
Those that knew Kampha can remember his love of cars, how he enjoyed just hanging out with his friends, being the “ladies man” and “mommy’s boy”. He was proud to be a soldier, and proud of his Laos-American heritage.
His family includes his parents, Maliphone and Patty (Vasey) Sourivong of Iowa City; sister, Elizabeth Marie Sourivong of Iowa City; brother, Neal Andrew Vasey of Iowa City; grandmother, Mary Devine of Des Moines; aunts and uncles, Lisa and Guillerrno Jauregui of Des Moines, Tsaman a d Lame Sysomephone of Kansas; eight great-aunts and uncles, cousins, Matt and Nicole Jauregui, Steve and Victor Jauregui, and Thevght Phone; second cousins, Roman, Haley and Emilia Jauregui
