Paul Rodney Bult was born April 16, 1950, in Callicoon, NY, the son of Reverend Peter James Bult and Mary Adeline (Aplin) Bult. Following graduation from Delaware Valley High School in Callicoon in 1968, he attended and graduated from Baptist Bible College in Springfield, MO. This is where he met his wife, Sue Annelle Swift and they were married on July 14, 1972, in Springfield. His first church he pastored was the Lehigh Bible Baptist Temple in Allentown, PA. He was here from 1974 until 1986 when he left Pennsylvania to come to Iowa for a pancreas and kidney transplant. Following his life saving transplants he and his family remained in the Iowa City area. Paul was Pastor of Care and Counseling at Grace Community Church, North Liberty, IA for 13 ½ years and for the last two years Pastor of the Valley Church in rural Swisher.
Having been born to a family where God was first, Paul would often share with you the first love of his life, Our Lord Jesus Christ. He has spent his lifetime sharing the gospel, sharing the good news, living, breathing, and walking with our Lord. In the midst of many medical hurdles, Paul was always looking to see what God had in mind for him, how he could share what he so believed. Paul would share God’s free gift of salvation with everyone he met. Paul was a servant shepherd to his people at Valley whom he loved deeply. His love for his family and grandchildren were his joy and passion. All enjoyed his stories and laughter. His hobbies included collecting Danbury Mint Antique Cars, Matchbox Cars, and driving his 1988 red Mercedes around the yard when he wasn’t allowed to drive anymore because of his eyesight.
His family includes his wife and soul mate, Sue; their children, Brenton Bult and his wife, Dena of Coralville, Arianne Bult of North Liberty, Ryan Bult of North Liberty, Bronson Bult and his wife, Kelly of North Liberty, Ashley McWilliams and her husband, Jon of North Liberty, and Amberly Bult of North Liberty; four grandchildren, Cora, Joselyn, Jadon, and Jacob; brothers, John Bult and his wife, Shirley of Claryville, NY, Gordon Bult and his wife, Lillian of West Franklin, NH, Pastor Dr. David Bult and his wife, Sylvia Bult of Mullins, SC, Pastor Dean Bult and his wife, Patty of Galloway, NJ, Terry Lee Bult of Liberty, NY; and many special nieces and nephews.
