Iowa City, IowaDorothy Womer, age 88 formerly of 5013 Sand Road, SE, Iowa City died Saturday, December 2, 2006, at the home of her daughter in Montrose, Colorado where she has been residing.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 6, 2006, at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 4 to 7pm Tuesday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in Dorothy’s memory to Hospice & Palliative Care of Western Colorado @ P.O. Box 1804, Montrose, CO 81402. Dorothy Lehman Womer was born September 13, 1918, in rural Benton County, Iowa the daughter of George and Zella (Foster) Lehman. She graduated with the Class of 1936 from Iowa City City High School. On September 28, 1938, she married Robert Womer in Iowa City. Since their marriage Dorothy and her husband farmed on Sand Road of rural Johnson County. After her husband’s death in 2001 Dorothy moved to Montrose, Colorado to be near her daughter and their family. Dorothy was a charter member of Jonco Jills Chapter of Isaac Walton League, and also a charter member of the HGL neighborhood club (Happy Go Lucky).
Her family includes her children, Karen Gaffey and her husband, Ed of Montrose, CO, Jerry Womer and his wife, Peggy of Algoma, WI; grandchildren, Cheryl Schlote of North Liberty, IA, Ted Schlote and his wife, Brenda of Albuquerque, NM, Dennis Womer and his wife, Julie of Dyersville, IA, Denise Hester and her husband, Greg of Bettendorf, IA; great-grandchildren, Taylor, Sidney, and Jack Hester, and Aidan Womer; sister Shirley Williams of Prairie City, IA.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Robert; and one sister, Ferne Clifford, and two brothers, John Lehman and Gaylord Lehman.
