Iowa City, IowaLaurel Morton, 83, of 1080 Silvercrest Way, Iowa City, died Tuesday, December 5, 2006 at Rosewood Care Center in Moline, Illinois.
No services are planned, burial will be at Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for Laurel’s family and her arrangements. Online condolences may be sent for her family through our website @ www.gayandciha.com.
Laurel Ann Klima was born February 13, 1923, in Stewart, Minnesota, the daughter of Dr. William and Martha (Korista) Klima. She was christened in the Congregational faith as an infant. She graduated from Stewart High School and the University of Minnesota, in English Education, after which she spent teaching a year of high school English in Milford, Iowa.
On December 23, 1945, she married Howard J. Morton, who died June 2, 2005. The Morton’s shared almost 60 years together. To celebrate their 50th anniversary, they spent a week in London then took the Euro-Start Train underneath the English Channel and celebrated a week in Paris.
While in Iowa City, Laurel worked at the Iowa City Press Citizen in display advertising for four years, and twelve years in the University of Iowa library system.
Her surviving family includes her son and his wife, Craig and Shirley Morton, of Moline, Illinois; grandson, Tyler Morton; granddaughter, Julie Morton; a sister, Beth Koeppen, of Hutchinson, Minnesota; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Laurel was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sons, Brent and Mark Morton, and several aunts and uncles.
