Iowa City, IowaMary E. Feehan, 88 formerly of Iowa City died Tuesday, December 26, 2006, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids following a brief illness.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 29 2006, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Iowa City, with the Reverend Tim Zimmerman officiating. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be held Thursday from 4 to 8pm at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. A memorial fund has been established in Mary's memory. Online condolences may be sent for her family through our website @www.gayandciha.com.
Mary Ellen Nussbaum Feehan was born February 20, 1918, in Lucas County, Iowa the daughter of Lawrence and Lily Belle (Cackler) Nussbaum. She was united in marriage to Adolph Leslie Feehan on November 25, 1939, in Iowa City. For many years she worked in food service at the University of Iowa as a cook at Hillcrest and Burge Hall dormitories. Many Iowa Hawkeye football players have gone through her food line, in fact some wouldn't eat if she wasn't cooking! She had been a long time resident of Iowa City until moving to Monticello, Iowa in 2003. In Iowa City she was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, and later in Monticello she became a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church. If you knew Mary, you knew her love of cooking, gardening, and her grandchildren, especially her "little peanut", Faith her great-great-granddaughter, and great-grandson, Chris Schooley.
Her family includes daughter Barbara Knottnerus of Iowa City; 5 grandchildren, Richard Knottnerus of Wisconsin, Terry Knottnerus of Tiffin, Randy Knottnerus and special friend, Cher Metz of Riverside, Marc Knottnerus and wife, Mary, of Iowa City, Mary Kaye Knottnerus and special friend, Wade Johnson of Anamosa; 8 great grandchildren, and a great-great- granddaughter, four sisters, and one brother.
She was preceded in death by her husband, son, Dwayne; son- in- law, George Knottnerus; and 5 brothers.
