Wilbert H. Walters, age 80 of 167 Ravencrest Drive, Iowa City died Friday, September 20, 2002 at his home following a lengthy illness.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, September 23, 2002 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Iowa City with the Reverends Tim Zimmerman and Robert Gebel officiating. Graveside services with military honors will be held at 2pm Monday at the Marengo Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 pm Sunday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Mr. Walters was born February 18, 1922 in York Township of Iowa County, Iowa, the son of Richard and Johanna (Siemer) Walters. During World War II, he served in the United States Army. On September 20, 1948, he married Joyce L. Hartz in Cedar Rapids. The couple have farmed in South of Victor and West of Williamsburg for many years. They moved to Iowa City in 1976 but continue to own their farm in Iowa County.

His family includes his wife, Joyce; daughter and her husband, Diane and Giddu Krishnamurti of Rockwell, MA; son, Brent R. Walters of North Liberty; grandchildren, Robert J. Holmes and Jennifer Ratcliff, and Rachel and her husband, Peter Sorrentino; great-grandson, Isaiah; sisters, Leona and her husband, Dick Wynne of Hemmet, CA, and Delores and Mahlon Leichty of Kalona
