Areline M. Windrem, age 93 formerly of 919 S. Van Buren Street, died Wednesday, April 17, 2002 at the Crestview Care Center in West Branch, Iowa following a brief illness.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 20, 2002 at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City with the Reverend Richard Paulus officiating. Burial will be at the Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 9am Saturday until services at the funeral home. Memorial donations can be made in her memory to Crestview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in West Branch, Iowa. Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service of Iowa City are caring for her services and her family.

She was born September 30, 1908 in Downey, Iowa the daughter of Guy A. and Mable (Lodge) Summers. She graduated from DeWitt High School, DeWitt, Iowa. For many years she worked as an Insurance Underwriter for Iowa Mutual Insurance Company in DeWitt, retiring in 1972. On September 4, 1954 she married Edward Windrem in DeWitt. He died on January 13, 1967. The couple maintained two homes, one in DeWitt and one in Iowa City, being in DeWitt during the week she was able to care for her parents, and work at her profession. In DeWitt she was a member of Beta Sigma Phi for over 35 years.

Areline and her husband never had children of their own, but loved and spoiled their nieces and nephews! She was an avid Hawkeye Football fan, having season tickets for many years before her health didn’t permit her to attend the games. She and her husband enjoyed traveling while he was alive.

Her family includes: sister-in-law, Betty Summers of DeWitt; several nieces and nephews, including Gayle and her husband, Mark Nelson of Iowa City, Bob Summers and his family of DeWitt, and Bill Summers and his family of Des Moines; as well as numerous cousins, great-nieces and nephews. sister-in-law, Betty Summers of DeWitt; and numerous cousins, great-nieces and nephews.

Areline was preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant sister, sister, Marie Brack, and brother, Merle Summers.
