Robert Womer, 86, of 5013 Sand Road SE, Iowa City, died suddenly at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City, Monday, December 17, 2001, after a long illness.
Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, December 19, 2001 at Gay & Ciha Funeral Service, Iowa City. A private graveside service will be held.
Mr. Womer was born, July 1, 1915 in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Carmi and Ada Gregory Womer. He lived and farmed on the same farm his entire life. He also owned and operated Womer’s Garage. He married Dorothy Lehman on September 28, 1938.
He was a charter member of the Izaak Walton League and a board member of the Johnson County Conservation Board.
His family includes his wife, Dorothy; one sister, Florence Oberman of Hills; and one brother Earl Womer of Wellman; one daughter Karen and her husband Ed Gaffey of Montrose, CO; a son Jerry Womer of Iowa City. He has four grandchildren, Cheryl Schlote of Iowa City, Ted Schlote and his wife Brenda of Perlata, MN; Dennis Womer of Iowa City; and Denise Hester and her husband Greg of Bettendorf. He also has two great-grandchildren Taylor and Sydney Hester.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
