Elaine C. Welsh, 91, of Iowa City died peacefully Tuesday, January 16, 2007 at UIHC
following a brief illness.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, January 20, 2007 at 10am at St.Patrick’s parish hall with the Rev. Rudolph Juarez officiating. Burial will at St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 4 to 7pm at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, where a rosary will be recited at 6:30pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Patrick’s Church.

Elaine, better known as “Toots”, was born February 3, 1915 in Oxford, Iowa,
the daughter of Frank and Stella McGillicuddy Clear. She was raised in Oxford where she was a 1933 graduate of Oxford High School. On April 30, 1946 she married John Welsh at St. Patrick’s Church in Iowa City.

Elaine had been employed by Northwestern Bell Telephone Company for many years
as an operator.

Elaine was a member of St. Patrick’s Church, the Altar and Rosary Society, the Telephone Pioneers Association and a lifetime member of the Communication Workers of America.

Elaine cherished the time spent with family and friends.

Elaine is survived by her four daughters, Maureen Caruso of Scottsdale, Arizona;
Teresa Welsh of Iowa City; Patricia (Ken) Welsh Van Ness of Lexington, Virginia
and their children Evan and Kiel; Sheila (Rodney) Melgard of Buffalo, Minnesota
and their children Ana and Ali; her sister, Lorraine (Frank) Light of Cedar Rapids.

Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother Vincent.
