Donald L. Fett, 77, formerly of 1507 Tracy Lane, died Sunday, January 14, 2007 at Windmill Manor in Coralville of complications from Alzheimer Disease.

Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10am, Thursday, January18, 2007 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church with Rev. Walter Helm officiating. Graveside services with military rites will be conducted at Memory Gardens. The family will greet friends from 4 to 6pm Wednesday at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, Iowa City. In lieu of flowers, the Donald Fett memorial fund has been established.

Don was born May 5, 1929 in Van Horne, Iowa, the son of Fred and Ella Paulsen Fett.
He received his B.A. and M.A. from the Iowa State Teachers College and served in the Navy Air Corps from 1948-52. On November 15, 1952 he married Frances Jendzejec at Our Lady of Czstochowa Church in Quidnick, Rhode Island.

Don taught for 27years in the Iowa City Community School District, retiring in 1993. He began his teaching career at schools in Aurelia and Burlington, Iowa and Antioch, Illinois, moving to Iowa City in 1966. Don taught economics and government at both, Iowa City City High School and West High School. Don loved teaching, and the time spent with both his colleagues and students.

Don was a member of St. Thomas More Church, the Iowa City Moose Lodge, the National Education Association, the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill and the Johnson County affiliate. He served as the Executive Secretary of the Iowa National Council for Social Studies for thirteen years.

Don was an avid golfer and enjoyed his dogs, Nicki and Dandee.

Don is survived by his wife, Frances, who resides at Walden Place in Iowa City and their children, Wayne (Sue) Fett of Iowa City and their children Erin (Evan) Pike and Courtney, Michael Fett of Iowa City, and Jane Fett and Nathan Leibowitz of Alexandria, Virginia; two sisters, Gladys Hartz of Newhall, Iowa and Eunice (Donald) Waterman of Atkins, Iowa.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, one son Patrick and five siblings, Lorenz,
George, Arlene, Keith and Freddie.
