Luella Meade Lynch, 88, died peacefully Monday, December 4, 2006 at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics with her family beside her.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday at 10:00 am at St. Patrick’s Parish Hall with The Very Reverend Rudolph T. Juarez officiating.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 3:00 to 8:00pm at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City. A parish rosary will be recited at 3:00 pm Wednesday.
Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery in rural Hills, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Alzheimer’s Research or a fund for the rebuilding of St. Patrick’s Church.

Luella was born on July 9th, 1918, in Windham, Iowa the daughter of Emmett and Beatrice (Donohoe) Meade. She attended school in Cosgrove and graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Riverside. On October 30th, 1945, Luella was united in marriage to Melvin Lynch in Morse, Iowa.

Luella worked at Collins Radio, at Hamburg Inn in Iowa City from 1961-1977 and later was employed by University Hospitals & Clinics in the dietary department from 1977 until her retirement in 1991. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church for over 40 years.

Survivors include her eight children, Bev (Jim) Whetstine of Iowa City, Colleen (Lloyd) Kessler of Solon, Larry (Chris) of Robins, Pat (Laurie) of Iowa City, Dan (Robin) of Kalona, Mary Lynch of Coralville, Mike of Iowa City and Kristy (John) Kellbach of Tiffin,
one sister Phyllis (Ralph) Sladek of Iowa City, 11 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson.

Luella was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, brother, Michael (Mick) Meade, sister, Maxine Meade, three younger brothers and a granddaughter, Lori Whetstine.
