Raymond J. Scheetz, 79, of Coralville died Sunday, November 26, 2006 at UIHC.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1:30pm, Thursday, November 30, 2006 at
St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Rev. Ken Kuntz officiating. Burial will be at St. Peter’s Cemetery, Cosgrove. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 4 to 7pm at Lensing s Oak Hill, Coralville, where a rosary will be recited at 4pm and a Vigil Service at 6pm. In lieu of flowers, a memorial to benefit the patients at UIHC has been established c/o UI Foundation.

Ray was born March 7, 1927 in Iowa City, the son of Nicholas and Thecla Halter Scheetz. He grew up in the Cosgrove area, where he was a graduate of Cosgrove High School. On March 30, 1948 he was united in marriage to Anne Knowling at St. Peter’s Church in Cosgrove.

Ray farmed in the Cosgrove area for twelve years and in 1960, moved into Iowa City. He was a builder and property manager.

Ray was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Iowa City Elks Club, the Cosgrove Institute and a former member of the Iowa City Jaycees.

Ray enjoyed the outdoors, especially his fishing trips to Florida and Minnesota and hunting for deer and elk in Wyoming. He was an avid Hawkeye supporter and liked to travel and play cards. Ray cherished the time he and his wife spent traveling and the time spent with their children and grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.

Ray is survived by his wife of 58 years, Anne, and their children, Vicki (Kevin) Woods of Burlington and their children Hollyn (Alex) Rodeck, Liana and Shannon Woods;son Randy (Linda) Scheetz of Eldridge and their children, Rebecca (Allen) Scott, Laura and Timothy Scheetz; daughter Christy Scheetz of Coralville; son-in-law Steve Cash of Iowa City and his sons, Christopher, Daniel and Nicholas Cash. He is also survived by one great-grandson, Jackson Rodeck, one sister, Irene Peiffer of Harper, and a cousin, Bob (Mary Ellen) Edwards, who grew up as part of Ray’s family.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter Cindy Cash, who died in April, 2006 and infant son David; three brothers, Paul, Cletus and William; and three sisters, Evelyn Clark, Ann Shannon and Viola Volk.
