Lewis “Lew” H. Negus, 85, formerly of 701 E. College Street and Legacy Ridge died Friday, June 30, 2006 surrounded by his family at Crestview Care Center in West Branch of cancer.

Funeral Services to celebrate Lew’s life will be held Monday, July 3, 2006 at 11am at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Ed Morgan officiating. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday from 3 to 7pm at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, Iowa City, where a Masonic Service will be held at 7pm, and after 10am, Monday at the Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice.

Lew was born July 31, 1920 in Ft. Madison, Iowa, the son of Joseph and Opal Watkins Negus. He was a graduate of Ft. Madison High School and served in the US Army during World War II. Lew received his BS degree in Commerce from the University of Iowa in 1952. He married Lorna Anderson at First Lutheran Church in Iowa City on May 15, 1949.

Lew was the owner of Iowa City Coach Company, which operated school buses for area schools. He retired in 1998.

Lew was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Iowa City Elks Lodge, the University of Iowa Alumni Assn. and I Club, Iowa City Masonic Lodge #4 A.F. &A.M., and the Kaaba Shrine. He was a past member of Iowa City Noon Rotary Club.

Lew was an avid golfer and loved to barbeque. He was a faithful supporter of the Iowa Hawkeyes, the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago Bears. He cherished the time with family, especially spoiling the grandchildren, and friends.

Lew is survived by his wife Lorna of Iowa City; and their five children, Marc (Shirl)
Negus of Vail, AZ. and their children Jeff (Jenny) Negus, Jeremy (Shonna) Negus,
Tom (Melanie) Watkins and George (Lisa) Watkins; Gordon (Amy) Negus of St. Peters,
MO. and their children Sam and Andy Negus; Laurie (Tom) Kriz of Iowa City and
their sons Tim and Brett Kriz; Michael Negus of Littleton, CO. and his children Taylor and Donnie Negus; Theodore Negus of Ft. Lauderdale, FL.; one great grandson, Palmer Negus; his brother, Joseph (Thelma) Negus of Claremont, CA.; his sister, Beverly (James) Moffett of Tampa, FL.

Lew was preceded in death by his parents.
