Donald J. Walton, 85, formerly of 808 Woodside Drive and a resident of Legacy Pointe died Wednesday, April 26, 2006 at Mercy Hospital following a lengthy illness.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, April 29, 2006 at 11am at St. Wenceslaus Church with the Rev. Michael Phillips officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 3 to 7:30pm at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, where a Vigil Service will be held at 7pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Children’s Miracle Network, Make-A-Wish or the St. Wenceslaus Expansion Project.
Donald was born January 1, 1921 in Riverside, Iowa, the son of Harry and Loretta Deatsch Walton. On September 27, 1943 he married Dolores Burnett in Iowa City.
Donald attended grade school in Riverside and was a graduate of University High School. He and his wife farmed southwest of Iowa City until 1963. Donald was water plant operating engineer with the City of Iowa City, retiring in 1982.
He was a member of St. Wenceslaus Church and the Marquette Council #842 Knights of Columbus.
Donald and his wife were snow village collectors and in recent years Donald had been collecting Massey-Harris tractors. He was a true gentleman who cherished the time spent with family. Donald had a warm heart, a great sense of humor and a strong work ethic. He loved to share a good story with family and friends. He will be greatly missed.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Dr. Echternacht and the staff at Legacy Pointe and Mercy Hospital for all their loving care.
Donald is survived by one son, Robert J. (Thea) Walton of Iowa City; three daughters, Donna (Don) Mullinnix of Riverside, Iowa, Patricia Bowman of Iowa City and Jerri Walton of Jackson, Mississippi; one son-in-law, Tom Hart of Riverside, Iowa; 12 grandchildren, Jeff, Brian, Michelle, Bob Jr., Kim, Kelly, Chuck, Cindy, Andi, Becky, Chris and Royce; 19 Great Grandchildren, Haley, Jaxon, Josie, Anthony, Justin, Isabella, James, Elizabeth, Kyle, Kate, Natasha, Jaydon, BJ, Amanda, Rusty, TJ, Ashley, Jessie, Emily and one expectant great grandchild; two great great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two daughters Barbara Hart and infant Angela, his son-in-law Danny Bowman, his brother Richard and sister, Darlene Fuhr.
