Florence Glasgow, 82, of 834 North Johnson Street, died peacefully Saturday, March 4, 2006 in her home from cancer with her family beside her.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday at 10:00 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Iowa City with Reverend Kenneth Kuntz officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 3:00 to 8:00 pm at Lensing Funeral Service in Iowa City with a parish rosary at 3:00 pm and a parish wake service at 7:30 pm. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Iowa City. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be directed to Iowa City Hospice.
Florence was born October 18, 1923 in Iowa City, the daughter of George & Frances (Reha) Prybil. She graduated from University High School in Iowa City and received her Bachelors degree in education from the University of Iowa. Florence taught English & Spanish in Ashland, Oregon and after moving back to Iowa City, Florence met her husband, Bruce R. Glasgow, and the couple married December 27, 1947 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She then taught at Regina High School and Iowa City High School.
Florence raised her family and later was a partner in the realty firm, Duncan, Matheson & Glasgow for many years in the Iowa City area. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Florence enjoyed swimming and playing tennis.
Survivors include her children, Dan Glasgow & his wife Karmella and Jim Glasgow, all of Iowa City, Bill Glasgow & his wife Carolyn of Clearwater, Florida, Ellen Farone & her husband Gino of Naubinway, Michigan and one grandson, Nick Glasgow of Iowa City
Florence was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bruce, a daughter Anne Wickstrom, a brother Ralph Prybil and a sister, Edith Wilson.
