Niffenegger Descendants Hold Reunion at Sharon
SHARON CENTER - The arrival of Mrs. Ida Wickard and daughter Esther in Iowa City from Colorado Springs, Colo., was the occasion for a family reunion of Niffenegger descendants held recently in the Sharon Center United Methodist Church dining hall.
Forty-six were present for the covered dish dinner and get-together of cousins. Mr. Omar Yoder, who had traced the Niffeneggers while visiting in Switzerland, gave a detailed history of the family which was taped for future reference.
Mrs. Wickard, the guest of honor who celebrated her 88th birthday June 27, is the daughter of Mr. John Niffenegger who was the eldest child of the Niffenegger patriarch.
Ulrich Niffenegger emigrated with his wife and children from Switzerland in 1854 to Ohio. Three years later the family moved to Sharon township in Johnson county. In 1885, he united in with the Evangelical Church of Sharon Center.
