Stutsman makes most of opportunities
A+ Achiever Nominations
By Rob Daniel

Whether it is school politics or showing cattle or her business skills, Katie Stutsman said it is just a matter of doing what the opportunities give her.
"I've been given a lot of opportunities and I've always tried to make the best of them," said Stutsman, 18, a West High senior.
Stutsman has tried a little of everything during her years at West High, where she was a regular at football and basketball games.
She has served as vice-president of the senior class, president of both the school and state chapters of Business Professionals of Iowa and president of the Johnson County Youth Council and her 4-H club, Shar-An-Win.
She also has been showing cattle for several years.
"I never get bored with everything," Stutsman said. "I've met a lot of great people through it."
With Business Professionals of America, she has helped coordinate the state competition, held Feb. 28 to March 2 in Cedar Rapids. She also competed there, claiming second place with her team in global marketing and taking third place in individual presentation management. Both wins qualified her for the association's national contest April 22-26 in Anaheim, Calif.
Showing cattle has been a part of Stutsman's life as well. Besides the Johnson County Fair, she also has shown cattle in Louisville, Peoria and Oklahoma City.
"It's a matter of making the most of the activities that are given to you," she said.
After graduating from West High in May, Stutsman said she plans to attend Iowa State University; she will major in agricultural business and possibly a second major yet to be determined.
