Health Fair At Sharon Center United Methodist Church

A 2010 Health Fair will be held from 9:30 to 1:30 p.m. Sunday, October 17 at the Sharon Center United Methodist Church. Organized by the church's Evangelism Committee, it will feature booths, guest speakers, lunch and dessert contest.

Schedule:
9:30 - 10:30 a.m.
Adults: Power of Prayer - Personal Stories, Bill Lawton will share stories, personal and professional, about the power of prayer, with time for you to share your stories and questions.

11:45 a.m. - 12:45 p.m.
Lunch with Rhonda Fruhling, ARNP/Certified Diabetes Educator, sharing Diabetes education.

OR

Lunch with Bill Lawton, "Spirituality and Your Personal Health". Updated research-based talk presented earlier this year to medical personnel in Moldova, the poorest country in Europe.

OR

Lunch in the Fellowship Hall. You may visit any of the following booths. Note: unless indicated, all tests are free.

Booths: 9:30 a.m to 1:30 p.m. at the College of Pharmacy
Blood pressure screening
Bone Density Screening - simply remove your shoe to learn bout your bones.
Blood Glucose Screening - involves a finger stick; done before lunch only - MUST fast 8 hours prior (water and coffee only)
Heart Health Information
Heartburn Update - understanding over the counter heartburn medications.
AED/CPR Updates
New CPR guidelines presented; certification available for $5.00
Automatic External Defibrillator demonstrated
Stroke Awareness
Wheels for the World: Information on restoration and recycling of walkers, wheelchairs, and crutches for other countries

Learn your blood type
Opportunity to sign up for a future blood drive
Where does your donated blood go and what is it used for?
Choosing healthy bread/grain; Whole grain? Multi-grain? 12 Grain? Which is the healthiest and how do you know?
Bone Marrow Screening
If you are interested in being on the bone marrow Registry and are younger that 59 1/2 years old. Involves a cheek swab which will be tested and entered into the Bone Marrow Registry.

Free Lunch - Information on the program, its history and needs and opportunities.
Influenza Vaccine (6 mos. and older)
Visiting Nurses Association
Medicare, Medicare Replacement, Blue Cross and other insurance companies are billed directly
Insurances that cannot be billed, VNA provides a receipt with the information necessary to submit to the insurance carrier to see if reimbursement is an option.
Cost: Without insurance, shot is $27; if payment is received at the time of the clinic, cost is $24. Mist is $33; if payment is received at the time of the clinic, $30. Pneumonia Vaccine is $60 without insurance.
Unsure? Call the 800 number on the back of your insurance card and ask if flu vaccines given at a Visiting Nurse Clinic are covered.

Children's Activities:
Katie the Kangaroo - Pill safety for Kids; teaches kids the benefits of medications when used appropriately as well as the dangers of inappropriate use; stresses the difference between medications and candy and has a coloring worksheet for the kids.
Container Safety - Johnson County Council of Government; helps children recognize containers that might be harmful.
