A New Pool

A new swimming pool now under construction at the University of Oregon will be named in honor of the late Ralph Waldo Leighton, native Iowan and onetime student at the University of Iowa, according to word received her by relatives of Mrs. Leighton, the former Lucia Strub.
Mrs. Leighton continues to reside in Eugene, Ore., where Professor Leighton joined the University of Oregon faculty in 1931, after earning his Ph.D. degree there. He was Dean of the School of Physical Educaiton from 1937 until his retirement in 1953, after which he continued to serve in an administrative capacity until his death on December 3, 1958.
As an active member of various health and physical education organizations, he had a number of friends on the University of Iowa faculty and visited here in an official or semi-official capacity on many occasions. The Leightons’ resided in Idaho immediately following their marriage here in the fall of 1914.
