Mrs. Mary G. SAMPSON, born Cornwall County, Eng. Mar. 9, 1810, died in Batavia, Jefferson Co., Iowa, Jan. 13, 1884. Bur. Batavia Cemetery.

In her 26th year she was married to Rev. Thomas SAMPSON; he died May 9, 1862. Eight children, two daughters and six sons. Mrs. J. G. SYMONDS, with her daughter, has lived for some years in Batavia. Lydia, Mrs. John BLAKELY, died in 1876. The sons: Samuel V., Wm. G., Thomas, Ezekiel, Gideon, and John W. all survive her, and reside in different parts of the state.

Family emigrated to America in 1848. They lived some time in Penn. and Maryland. In the fall of 1855 they came to Iowa... She joined the Wesleyan Methodists in her 19th year.... Notwithstanding her husband's failing health, she, at the beginning of the war, gave her eldest son to the army, and after Mr. SAMPSON's death four other sons followed the elder....
