Obit. Samuel Cyrus PEEBLER, born Jan. 12, 1842, died May 3, 1927, aged 85-3-21, youngest child of Samuel and Dorothy FOUCH PEEBLER (bur. Fairfield City Cem.) who were pioneers, coming to Iowa from Springfield, Ill., and preempted a piece of land in the present site of Fairfield, Iowa, located on what is now known as East Burlington Street, extending to the present site of Chautauqua Park.
Six children: William, Mary, Siren, John, Michael and Samuel C., and Mrs. Eliza WEST by a former marriage, all of whom have passed on except Michael who is now in his 90th year.
For generations the PEEBLER families have been members of the Church of the Brethren. Samuel C. PEEBLER married Rebecca DUNN Dec. 26, 1861. Five children, two dying in infancy (bur. Dunn Cemetery); Mrs. Lincoln CREMER, Mrs. Geo. ISRAEL, and John W. PEEBLER all of this vicinity. Besides this they made a home for M. M. ROE, who was an orphan, and Ethel Dunn LEWIS, a niece. There were 14 grandchildren and 5 grgrchn.... Interment in Batavia Cemetery.
