Louis Jean MAIRET was born in Sagne, Switzerland, July 18, 1869 and passed away at his home five miles northeast of Batavia Saturday December 6, 1930 at the age of 61 years, 4 months and 18 days.
He came to the United States in 1896 and settled near Mount Pleasant, Iowa, where he lived for 10 years at which time he moved to near Batavia where he lived until his death.
In the year 1899 he was married to Lena MARET. To this union four children were born.
Those surviving him are his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Arnold CURRAY of Batavia, Ia. and Mrs. Robert SNYDER of Birmingham, Ia., two sons, Elmer of Milwaukee, Wis. and Alfred at home.
He is also survived by one brother Alfred, of Switzerland, one brother, Paul, preceded him in death.
He held membership in the Presbyterian church of Cross Lanes, Iowa, and always enjoyed being present at the church services.
Mr. MAIRET will not alone be missed in his home by his companion and children but the entire community as sunny jovial disposition made him a friend to every one.
Although not in the best of health for a number of years his last illness was of only two days duration.
Surrounded by his entire family just before his departure he expressed a wish for the time to soon come, saying he was ready to go.
Funeral services were held in the Methodist church at Batavia Monday at 1:30 p.m. The Rev. Harvey E. Butler officiated, The body was laid to rest in the Batavia cemetery.

Admin. note: Per a family researcher, the surname should be JEAN-MAIRET. Later generations dropped the JEAN and used MAIRET for the surname.
