Louisa BAINUM, daughter of William and Loveday BAINUM, wife of Judson CURTIS, was born at Wilmington, Dearborn county, Indiana December 15th, 1849. She attended the public schools and seminary at that place where she spent the early years of her life becoming a member of the methodist episcopal church at the age of 15 years. Throughout her later life, she always affiliated herself with the church of her choice and its kindred organizations.

On May 8th, 1872 she was united in marriage to Judson CURTIS of Aurora, Indiana, at which place they spent the first twenty five years of their married life. During this period of time, seven children were born to this union, all of whom are living, except Arthur, the eldest, who preceded his mother to the heavenly home in the year of 1919. Five sons and a daughter still remain: Walter B. of Carthage, Ill.; Mrs. C. A. BURNER of Normal, Illinois; Hubert of Charles City, Iowa; Robert and Ralph of Stuttgart, Arkansas; Stanley of near Batavia, Iowa.

In the year of 1896 the family moved to McLean Co. Illinois, residing near the town of Bellefower for seven years. In the year of 1903 they moved to Batavia, Iowa where they have since made their home, living on their farm for a number of years, taking up their residence in Batavia during the year of 1913.

After an illness of about three months, the latter two weeks of which Mother CURTIS was confined to her bed, she departed from this life at 5:30 P.M. November 19, 1926. Age 76 years, 14 months (sic - 11 months) and 4 days. Besides a devoted husband, children and their families, her departure is mourned by a host of friends, who learned to love Mother CURTIS on account of the Christian and useful life that she lived.

Funeral services were held in the local M E Church by the Pastor assisted by Rev David Phillips of Agency. Interment was made in the Batavia cemetery.
