Walter S. (Scott) CAMPBELL, 85, lifelong resident of Jefferson County, died Wed. evening at home of his daughter Mrs. Guy McNEIL s.e. of Batavia. Burial in Batavia Cemetery. Campbell Funeral Home.

Born Dec. 4, 1855, in Jefferson County... business man in Batavia for a number of years; operated a grocery store, was connected with the grain elevator; and for 13 years served the town as postmaster. Once taught rural schools in the county, and was a farmer. Member Masonic Lodge.

Dec. 18, 1879, married Miss Ida FRISBE who died Mar. 4, 1939. Was preceded in death by two sons. Survived by two daughters, Mrs. Harry WHITMORE and Mrs. Guy McNEIL both of Batavia, and one son Raymond CAMPBELL of Ottumwa; 9 grchn and five grgrchn.
