OBITUARY

SARAH JANE HARRIS

Sarah Jane HARRIS, youngest child of Reuben and Marry HARRIS, was born in Jefferson county, Iowa, February 1, 1854, and departed this life at her home near Batavia, Iowa, at 8:30 oclock Saturday night, March 24, 1923.

On August 25, 1875 she was united in marriage to Rev. John A. BROWN.

To this union were born seven children, four girls and three boys, all living except one. Mary Lucretia, who died in infancy. They are: William R. of Rolstan, Wyo., Mrs. Pearl SHAHAN of Albia, Iowa, John of Libertyville, Iowa, Mrs. Bertha GRIM (sic - GINN) of Billings, Montana, Dempsey and Grace at home. The husband and all the children were at the bedside when death came.

At twelve years of age she confessed her faith in Christ and was baptized by James Glen, an elder of the Christian church at Bladensburg, Iowa.

In this faith she lived and died. Her Bible was her daily companion. Her unfaltering faith, Christian fortitude, and perfect preparedness were clearly shown when, calling the family around her and recognizing and greeting each, she told them she must go, and requested them not to worry but to part with her willingly and to be reconciled to her going. Getting their consent, she passed away very peacefully and without a struggle.

Her way of teaching the Christian life was by a quiet, inpretentions (sic - unpretentious), unassuming example, her daily life being one of self sacrifice for the comfort and welfare of others.

Besides her immediate family she is survived by thirteen grandchildren, her brothers and sisters having preceded her in death.

Funeral services were conducted from the family home Tuesday forenoon at 9:30 oclock by Rev. R. H. Polly of the Fairfield Chrictian (sic) church. A mixed quartet from Fairfield sang "Wonderful Peace," "Tarry With Me," and "In the Garden." The body was laid to rest in Everygreen (sic) cemetery at Fairfield.
