Old time mail carrier dies

James Breckenridge ALVERSON, 84, died this morning at his home in Batavia. Son of Benj. & Celesta ALVERSON, born in Wapello Co., n.w. of Batavia, Aug. 27, 1860, youngest of 11 children. He resided in the immediate vicinity his entire life and for over 40 years in Batavia.

He carried the mail on what is known as the old rural route No. 2, north of Batavia, for 26 years, retiring in 1927. On Mar. 18, 1889, he married Kate MASON, who died Mar. 9, 1927. Seven children, six survive. On July 3, 1934, he married Belle HUGHELL who survives. He was member Methodist Church. A brother, the late Joe ALVERSON, who died a year ago at age 99, was Civil War veteran. Surviving children: Ralph, Harrisburg, Ill.; Myrtle, San Antonio, Tex.; Mable, San Diego, Calif.; Oscar, Los Angeles, Calif., Mrs. Inez CROCKETT, Des Moines; Mrs. Gertrude GLOTFELTY, Sheridan, Wyo. A son Arthur preceded him in death.
