BATAVIA. George Howard ABERNATHY, 42, Batavia rural mail carrier, died today at Ottumwa Hospital. Campbell Funeral Chapel. Batavia Cemetery.
Born June 30 1913 in Blakesburg, son of Branford and Margaret MILLER ABERNATHY; married Larue HUFF Apr 9 1932. Was appointed postmaster at Blakesburg in 1936, youngest postmaster in the nation. He moved to Batavia in 1944 and had served as rural mail carrier since that time. Was an amateur radio operator and maintained his own station, WOWDS, for several years. Member Community Bible Church.
Surviving are wife and three daughters, Mrs. Jeanne ORNDUFF, Iowa City; Mrs. Joanne CHRISTY, Ottumwa; and Janece, at home; his father and one brother, John ABERNATHY, both of Ottumwa. His mother preceded him in death in 1952.
