Ralph CRANE Dies Tuesday

Ralph CRANE, farmer living three miles east of Glasgow, passed away at 4:15 Tuesday afternoon at the Memorial hospital in Mt. Pleasant, following an accident in which he was injured two weeks ago at his farm home.

Funeral services will be held at the Round Prairie Baptist church Thursday at 2 p.m. in charge of Rev. J. A. Cochran. Burial will be in the Lambert [sic - Lambirth] cemetery.

Mr. CRANE has been a prominent and energetic farmer for many years and was a leader in his community, where his passing will be mourned.

He is survived by his wife and two sons, Emery of Lockridge, and Everett, who is stationed withthe U.S. Army in Texas. Surviving also are four brothers and four sisters, William of Mt. Pleasant, Alva of Newton, Irvin of Grand Island, Nebraska, and Walter of Salem, Mrs. Bert COOPER of Salem, Mrs. Charles SMITH of Lockridge, Mrs. Frank JACKSON of Ottumwa and Mrs. Harry KIGER of Mt. Pleasant, and four grand children, Russell, Vincent, Gwendolyn and Emery Jr., all of Lockridge.

Ralph CRANE Rites Held

Funeral services for the late Ralph CRANE of southeast of Lockridge were held at the Round Prairie church with the Rev. J.A. Cochran preaching the funeral sermon from Jobe 14:14.

Mrs. J.F. Barton and Mrs. Harry Thomas sang, "Does Jesus Care," "When We Get to the End of the Way," "Home of the Soul" and 'Sometime We'll Understand." They were accompanied by Mrs. Tom Howell.

Burial was in the Lambert [sic-Lambirth] cemetery with the following serving as pall bearers: F.C. McElwee, Chas. Edwards, Chester Elliott, A.W. Anderson, E.W. Hass and D.C. Barton.

Ralph, second son of Charles and Susan (CATCOTT) CRANE was born in Tippecanoe township in Henry county, Iowa, August 18, 1869, and departed this life Tuesday afternoon, May 4, 1937 at the Memorial hospital in Mt. Pleasant at the age of 67 years, having been ill a little over two weeks.

On September 26, 1894, he and Mary Jane HOOTMAN were united in marriage and to this union were born three sons: Emery R., of Lockridge, Iowa, one son who died in infancy, and Everett G., who has been stationed at Ft. Bliss, Texas, the past four years.

Wth the exception of four years in California, and a year in Mt. Pleasant, he lived in the Union vicinity practically all his life, the greater part of his years being spent on the farm where their family was reared and where he was born.

His parents and two sisters, Maudie and Mrs. Carrie BARTON preceded him in death.

Besides his wife, the two sons and the daughter-in-law, ther are the four grandchildren who are Russell, Vincent, Gwendolyn, and Emery Junior CRANE, all of whom he was very fond. There are also the following brothers and sisters: Irvin of Grand Island, Nebraska, Cora COOPER of Salem, Iowa, William of Mt. Pleasant, Nellie SMITH of Lockridge, Alva of Newton, Elsie JACKSON of Ottumwa, Walter of Salem and Orpha KIGER of Mt. Pleasant. There are numerous other relatives and friends all of whom mourn his passing.

He was a member of the Round Prairie Baptist church, being one of the church trustees at the time of his death.
