Page 2, Column 3F. J. DEMARSH DIES SUDDENLY
Many friends wre greatly shocked this morning to learn of the death of F. J. DEMARSH, which occurred at his home on West Broadway a few minutes before nine o'clock last evening. Mr. DEMARSH had not been well for about five days but at no time during his illness had he been confined to his bed and yesterday he was thought to be out of danger by his relatives and friends. Last evening only a few minutes before his death he talked to his neighbors and cheerfully told them he was much improved and would be able to be around in a short time. At the time of his death he was sitting on a sofa in the family sitting room and without any warning at all he fell back lifeless. The immediate cause of his death was heart failure.
Frank Jackson DEMARSH was born September 7-1835 near Montreal, Canada. When about twenty-two years of age he came to Iowa and located near Perlee in Jefferson son county (sic) where he soon opened a general store which he conducted for a number of years.
Here he met and wooed Miss Elizabeth URIE and on March 14-1861 they were married at the brides home in Perlee. Three children were born to them, two daughters and one son. The oldest daughter Mrs. Ida May PREWITT died ten years ago, the other children, Dr. Clarke Chester DEMARSH of this city and Mrs. Roy E. HATTAN of Evansville, Ind., with their aged mother are left to mourn the loss of their loved one.
Beside the members of his immediate family Mr. DEMARSH is survived by three sisters and two brothers, Mrs. Rosanna SPEAR, Mrs. Mary TELLINGHAST, and Mrs. Adeline STRASH and David DEMARSH of Utica, New York, and John DEMARSH of Ottumwa, Iowa.
During his residence in Perlee, Mr. DEMARSH become (sic) one of the most widely acquainted men in Jefferson county and he was held in the highest esteem by all of his acquaintances. He served for a number of years as postmaster of Perlee and held other public offices of trust.
The family moved to this city thirteen years ago the first of March, since which time Mr. DEMARSH had lived quietly on account of his frail health. He had been an active member of the Presbyterian church of this city since coming to Fairfield.
The funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at two o'clock at the residence on West Broadway and the remains will be laid to rest in Evergreen cemetery.

F. J. DEMARSH, aged seventy-four years, succumbed suddenly to heart failure at the family home on West Broadway last Thursday evening just before nine o'clock. While Mr. DEMARSH had been unwell for several days, he was thought to be on the way to recovery when he was seized with a sudden attack of heart failure, dying almost instantly. The funeral took place from the residence on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock and burial occurred in Evergreen cemetery. Deceased has been a resident of the county since 1857, coming to Fairfield from Perlee about thirteen years ago.
Less than a week before his death, Mr. DEMARSH began to feel unwell, but was not at any time confined to his bed. The day of his death, Thursday, he was apparently feeling considerably better and was about the place taking a great deal of interest in things. Just a short time before the attack of heart failure, he had been out conversing with a friend and made the statement that he was feeling much better and would be as well as usual in a day or two. Later he came into the house and seated himself on a couch in the family living room. He was apparently feeling in the best of spirits when suddenly he fell back and was lifeless in an instant.

Here he conducted a grocery store and was pastmaster (sic) for many years. He was married to Miss Elizabeth URIE in 11861 (sic). Two daughters and a son were born of the union. Mrs. Ida M. PREWETT, the oldest daughter, died about ten years ago. The wife and two remaining children, Dr. Clark C. DEMARSH of this city and Mrs. Roy E. HATTON of Evansville, Ind., survive. Deceased through his long and honored residence int he county became widely known and a very large number of friends were shocked to learn of his sudden death.

F. J. DEMARSH
died thursday night of last week at his home on West Broadway. Although he had not been well for several days, he seemed better that day and was sitting on the sofa, when he suddenly fell back dead.
He was born in Montreal, Canada. September 7, 1835. When about 20 years old he came to Iowa and located near Perlee where for many years he ran a general store in connection with the Postoffice. On March 14, 1861, he was married to Eliza URIE in Perlee, who with two children, Dr. Clark C. DEMARSH of this city and Mrs. Roy HATTAN of Evansville, Indiana, survive. One daughter, Mrs. mary PREWETT, died about ten years ago. He is also survived by three sisters, Mrs. Rosanna SPEER, Mrs. Marry TELLINGHAS, and Mrs. Adaline STRACH; and two brothers, David of Utica, New York, and John of Ottumwa.
About 12 years ago the family moved to this city. He was a quiet peaceable man and had many warm friends wherever he was known. He was a most faithful member of the Presbyterian church. His wife and children have the sympathy of the entire community.

In the prosperous days of Perlee, when the mines were all working, Mr. DeMARCE was the leading merchant and a heavy real estate owner in the town.....Leaves wife and two children, Dr. Clark DeMARCE of Fairfield and Mrs. Roy HATTON of Indianapolis, Ind.
