Mildred Bernice CARTER, 95, of Fairfield died Thursday, Jan. 12, 2006.
A service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield, with the Rev. Frosty VanVoorst officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
A visitation will be from noon-5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with family present from 1:30-3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Christian Church or Evergreen Cemetery.
Mildred was born March 19, 1910, in Jefferson County the daughter of Emery W. and Hermie (MOORE) CARTER.
Mildred lived all her life in the Fairfield community, graduating from FHS in 1927. She attended Ft. Madison Business College in Fort Madison, IA and worked as a legal secretary in Ft. Madison for two years. Returning to Fairfield, she was employed for 43 years as a legal secretary with the Jordan Law Office. She also kept records and served as treasurer for Fairfield Evergreen Cemetery Association for more than 40 years.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Fairfield.
Survivors include two nieces, Darlene and husband Bob SUTHERLIN of Anchorage, AK and Marilyn HIATT of Fairfield, IA, and 10 great-nieces and nephews and their families, Jim HIATT of Fairfield, IA, Linda VON WIESENTHAL of Cypress, TX, Margaret SCHNEIDER of Lenexa, KY, Marcia WAGNER of Burlington, IA, Jeff SUTHERLIN of Seattle, WA, and Mark SUTHERLIN, Steve SUTHERLIN, Sherri SUTHERLIN, Kathy POWELL and Jon SUTHERLIN, all of Anchorage, Alaska.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, M. Irene HIATT, one nephew, Bruce HIATT and one niece, Evaughn HIATT.
