Libertyville

Martin M. DOUGHERTY, 81, a resident of Libertyville, passed away Saturday, July 19, 2025 at the Addington Place in Fairfield.

Funeral services celebrating his life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 25, 2025 at Faith Methodist Church in Libertyville. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be in Fell Cemetery in Libertyville. Memorials may be made to Faith Methodist Church or Douds American Legion. Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield is assisting the family.

Martin was born November 5, 1943 in Libertyville, the son of Merle and Amy (COOKSEY) DOUGHERTY. He attended elementary school in Libertyville and graduated from Fairfield High School in 1962.

Martin attended barber college in Davenport and received his master barber's license in 1964. He started his own barbershop in Packwood only to be drafted into the U.S. Army two weeks later. Martin served his country during the Vietnam War (sic - Vietnam Conflict) from 1965 - 1967.

After returning home from Vietnam, Martin began barbering in Birmingham for 18 years. He then worked at different factories until his retirement. Martin married Carolyn KANN in 1967. They later divorced in 2004.

Martin enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and art.

Martin was the proud father of two sons, Marc DOUGHERTY of Cole Camp, Missouri, and Matt DOUGHERTY of Pleasant Hill, Missouri; grandchildren, Braiden DOUGHERTY (Mason) of Sedalia, Missouri, Delaney DOUGHERTY (Tyler) WARD of Otterville, Missouri, Cowen (Libby) DOUGHERTY of Kansas, and Teagan DOUGHERTY (Alejandro) of Kansas; two great-grandchildren on the way; brother, Jim (Linda) DOUGHERTY of Libertyville; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and their families.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Rose HANSEN, Irene GIRE, and Sue WILSON.

"My greatest joy is my boys, Marc and Matt; grandchildren, Cowen, Braiden, Delaney, and Teagan. So very proud of them all."
