MRS. EMORY JAMES DIED ON SATURDAY

Mrs. Gertrude JAMES died Saturday afternoon shortly after three o'clock at the home of her parents Mr. and Mrs. Hans RASMUS just east of this city after a few month's illness of tuberculosis. Her death is one of the saddest which has occurred in Fairfield for some time. Four little children who only a short time ago were so happily playing in their own home have in the space of little over three months been bereft of a father's loving watchful care and a mother's gentle sympathising love. They will go through life never realizing the full extent of their loss.

Martha Gertrude RASMUS-JAMES was born August 20-1875 near Fairfield and grew to young womanhood in this vicinity. On July 14-1898 she was united in marriage to Emery N. JAMES of this city. Four children were born to them, all of whom survive. They are Carl aged nine, Fred aged eight, Fay aged six and Dora aged about eighteen months.

On March 31 Mr. JAMES who was an employee of the Rock Island railway company was accidentally killed in the yards of the company at Washington, Iowa. His death was such a severe shock to the young wife that her health was immediately affected and tuberculosis quickly developed.

As soon as her affairs could be arranged Mrs. JAMES moved to this city to the home of her parents where she soon became quite ill and her death has been expected for the past two weeks. She had suffered greatly during her illness her inability to care for her little ones seeming to constantly prey on her mind. Less than four months has separated the devoted husband and wife both of whom were in the very prime of life as years are to be reckoned.

Mrs. JAMES leaves beside her little ones, her father and mother, two brothers Frank of Davenport, and Harry of this city, and one sister Mrs. Dora FRANKLIN of Colorado Springs Colorado.

Funeral services were held this afternoon at three o'clock at the home of Mr. and Mrs RASMUS, Rev. G. W. Burch of the Christian church conducted the last services and the remains were laid to rest by the side of the husband.

The sympathy of the entire community is with the orphaned children and the other relatives.

Gertrude RASMUS JAMES.

After a few months' illness resulting from tuberculosis, Mrs. Gertrude JAMES died at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hans RASMUS, on Saturday afternoon, July 26, 1909.

The death of Mrs. JAMES is especially sad, from the fact that four small children, who were only a few months ago bereaved of a father's protecting care, are now left without a mother's love and guidance.

On the 31st of last March Mr. JAMES, who was an employe of the C., R. I. & P. railroad company, was instantly killed in the switchyards at Washington and his young wife never recovered from the shock, her grief undermining her health to such an extent that she fell a victim to tuberculosis.

Mrs. JAMES came with her children to the home of her parents in this city, where she has since made her home, and where everything possible was done to aid her recovery. The young mother was constantly troubled by the thought of being unable to care for her little ones, and his worry no doubt hastened her death.

Gertrude RASMUS JAMES was born August 20, 1875, and grew to womanhood in this city, where she had a large circle of friends. In July, 1898, she was united in marriage to Emery JAMES, of this city. Four children were born to them, Carl, Fred, Fay and Dora, the eldest being nine years of age and the youngest a baby of eighteen months.

The sympathy of everyone goes out to the heart-broken father and mother and to the little ones so sadly bereft of father and mother, but the pangs of grief are somewhat lessened by the thought of the happy meeting in the other home, where the crushing load of sorrow has been replaced by happiness.

Besides the little ones and her father and mother, Mrs. JAMES leaves two brothers, Harry, of this city, and Frank, of Davenport, and one sister, Mrs. Dora FRANKLIN, of Colorado Springs, Colo.

Funeral services were held at the RASMUS home Monday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Burch, and the body was laid to rest beside the husband in Evergreen cemetery.
