SHARON KAY ANDERSON
Fairfield

Sharon Kay ANDERSON, age 84, of Fairfield, Iowa, passed way suddenly on April 22, 2025 in Port Charlotte, Florida. Born on January 29, 1941, in Bedford, Iowa, Sharon was the daughter of Arlene and Jim DUNCAN.

Sharon graduated from Altoona High School in 1949. In August of 1962 she graduated from Drake University, married her childhood sweetheart, Larry ANDERSON, at the First Baptist Church in Des Moines, and began her first teaching position at Ames High School. Sharon's teaching career spanned 17 years in the Des Moines area where she taught English, Speech and Drama. In later years, Sharon was also a member of the MB Chapter for PEO.

Sharon served on the board of directors for the Corvette Club of Iowa. She was also an avid racer, having raced individual time trials at Daytona 500, Indianapolis 500 and the Atlanta Motor Speedway. She was competitive and unafraid to show up 'the boys', as she consistently beat Larry's times in numerous Corvette races.

Sharon and Larry lived in Runnells, Iowa, where she was a devoted wife and caring mother to their two sons, Lance and Lundy. After retiring from teaching in 1979, she was the Vice President of Duncan Sanitary Products in Des Moines until 1990. At that time the family moved full time to Clear Lake, Iowa. After selling the sanitary business, she worked at Lake Car Connection Artic Cat, which she owned with Larry and business partner Mark Graves.

Sharon and Larry enjoyed spending their winters throughout Florida's Gulf Coast since 1984. During those times, the couple remodeled and decorated several homes while Sharon also worked with younger children as a substitute teacher.

Sharon was faithful in her walk with the Lord. She was active in various churches by teaching Sunday school and singing in the choir. She loved Southern Gospel music. While in Clear Lake, she organized a sewing club which provided hundreds of dresses to children in need in Haiti. She was also a Circle member through United Methodist Church in Fairfield. Perhaps she most enjoyed providing special music by singing duets with Larry, which they would practice in the car on longer road trips.

Sharon is survived by her husband, Larry; sons, Lance (Lynn) and Lundy (Sheila) along with grandchildren Grace, Hope, Austyn, Bethany, Ellie and Rylan.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Patricia.

A memorial service to celebrate Sharon's life will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Fairfield on June 1st at 1pm with a luncheon to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Fairfield First United Methodist Church or the Awaken Outreach Center of North Port, Florida.
