BRIGHTON -- Ethiel Otto "Nick" HOEFER, 88, of Brighton died at 8:35 p.m. Dec. 7, 1996, at Jefferson County Hospital in Fairfield.
He was born Dec. 20, 1907, in Germanville to George and Pauline SCHMIDT HOEFER. He married Elsie Charlotte PETERSEN Feb. 14, 1933. She died May 26, 1976. He married Ferne COURTNEY KURTZ Jan. 24, 1982, in East Pleasant Plain.
He had lived most of his life in Walnut Township in the Germanville community and was a farmer and factory employee at Loudens for 21 years. He was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Germanville and Brighton Lions Club.
He is survived by his wife, Ferne HOEFER of Brighton; a son, Dennis HOEFER of Marietta, Ga.; and three stepchildren, Marilyn STROHMAN of Mount Pleasant, Ruth Ann KEHL of Dubuque and Kenneth KURTZ of Brighton; a granddaughter; 13 step-grandchildren; 13 stepgreat-grandchildren; a sister, Marie FANNING of Racine, Wis.; and a brother, Carl HOEFER of Brighton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a stepson, Alan KURTZ; a brother, Paul; and two sisters, Ethel HAAS and Esther BUSCH.
The service will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Hope Lutheran Church in Germanville, the Rev. Steve Estrem officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
Family visitation will be 7 to 8 p.m. today at Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hope Lutheran Church in Germanville.
