Kenneth L. HIX

FAIRFIELD - Kenneth L. HIX, 93, of Washington, died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2001, at Washington County Hospital and Clinics in Washington (note: in Washington Co., IA).

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, at First United Methodist Church in Fairfield, with the Rev. Ken Kent officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield.

Family visitation will be held from 6:30 - 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, at Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be given to First United Methodist Church, Halcyon House in Washington and Washington County Hospital.

Mr. HIX was born July 23, 1908, in Milford, Ill., the son of Leroy and Maude METZ HIX. He married Ava Pauline WEYENETH Feb. 5, 1946, in McCook, Neb.

Mr. HIX was a city letter carrier for the United States Postal Department in Fairfield for 30 years before his retirement. He was a veteran of the United States Army, who had served during World War II.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church.

He was an avid reader, wrote poetry, loved the outdoors and spending time with family.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Gail GEVOCK and husband Joe of Swisher, Joyce BRODIE and husband Steve of Des Moines, Kathy BAKER and husband Tom of Fairfield; one son, the Rev. Duane HIX and wife Medora of Cedar Rapids; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Dan HIX; two sisters, Helen DROZ and Hazel HIX; and two brothers, Clyde HIX and Verne HIX.
