Susannah WELCH HISEL Is Summoned After Short IllnessMrs. John HISEL passed away at her home 1000 South Main street at 11:45 Sunday morning.
She had been ill for two weeks but seemed to be recovering until a few minutes before her death.
Susannah WELCH HISEL was born April 23, 1847, in Stark county, Ohio. On Sept. 12, 1870, she was united in marriage to John HISEL who passed away March 19, 1899. To this union were born Percy C.; John J. of this city; Mrs. Edna GALBRAITH of Los Angeles, Calif.; and Mrs. May KERRICK of Claude, Tex.; who survive her. A daughter, Alice Maude HISEL passed away May 21, 1926, and a son, Walter W., passed away Dec. 12, 1933.
The funeral arrangements are awaiting the arrival of Mrs. GALBRAITH and Mrs. KERRICK. The body was taken to the Murray Funreal (sic) Home in Fairfield.

Funeral services for Mrs. John HISEL, who died Sunday, will be held at the family home, 1000 South Main street, tomorrow, Aug. 9, at 3:30. The services will be in charge of Rev. S. P. Williamson, and the body will be laid to rest in the Fairfield Abbey.

Mrs. John HISEL passed away at her home, 1000 South Main street, at 11:45 Sunday morning, Aug. 5, 1934. She had been ill for two weeks, but seemed to be recovering until a few minutes before her death.
Susannah WELCH HISEL, daughter of John and Clarissa CHASE WELCH, was born April 23, 1847, in Stark county Ohio. In September 1854, at the age of seven years, she came with her father's family in a covered wagon to Cedar township, the journey from Ohio requiring four weeks.
For nearly 80 years her home has been continuously in Jefferson county, Iowa, where she watched with interest its growth and development.
She often recalled attending with her father the first Iowa State Fair held at Fairfield, Oct. 25, 26, 27, 1854, on the ground now marked by the monument erected by the D. A. R.
Mrs. HISEL attended the Bradshaw Cedar No. 2 school, and other district schools, and later was a student for several terms in the Axline university of Fairfield.
Mr. and Mrs. HISEL were the parents of six children: Percy C., John J., of this city, Mrs. Mary Edna GALBRAITH, Los Angeles, Calif., and Mrs. Clara May KERRICK, Claude, Tex., who survive.
A daughter, Alice Maude HISEL, passed away May 21, 1926, and a son, Walter W., passed away Dec. 12, 1933.
She also leaves a grandson, Burley Welch KERRICK, and a great grandson, Richard Page KERRICK, both of Claude, Tex.
Funeral services were held at the home at 3:30 Thursday afternoon conducted by Rev. S. P. Williamson.
Miss Cora Ball and Mrs. Nellie Van Nostrand sang "Jesus Lover of My Soul," and "The City Four Square.
Interment in the Fairfield Mausoleum.
Casket attendants were: Fred W. McClain, Frank L. McClain, Chris Blough, W. P. Starr, A. E. Labagh and O. E. Kirby.

The Abbey was built in 1915, and stood until the 1960s when water damage took its toll. Those laid to rest there were moved to other locations, the last of them being removed in 1968. Susannah, daughter Alice, and son Walter were all entombed in the Abbey, and later moved to Lot Old.P.264.
