Page FOUR, Column 6CHARLES E. HISEL
Charles E. HISEL was the oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph HISEL. Born January 29, 1871, in Cedar Township where he grew to manhood. September 27, 1893 he was married to Dot SCOTT, having purchased a farm west of Fairfield, where they made their home until the death Angel visited the home and took the wife, August 29, 1909, leaving a young husband and little son Leonard.
Charlie then rented the farm and moved to Fairfield with his father and mother. In the year of 1910, he, in partnership with J. E. Prince and also accompanied by his brother, A. W. HISEL, made a trip to France engaged in importing horses. On the 8th day of March, 1911 he was united in marriage to Miss Gertrude McWHIRTER and moved back on his farm west of Fairfield. Two little daughters, Bernice and Louise came to bless this union.
When that dread disease, "Flu," appeared, the son Leonard contracted it. Gertie took care of him and all too soon fell a victim to the Flu and almost without any warning the Angel of Death again visited the home, Dec. 22, 1918, leaving the husband, son and two little daughters motherless. Charlie then sold the farm west of the city and purchased a farm one half mile south of the city and on December 30, 1920 he met, wooed and won Miss Jessie WRAY, one of Fairfield's popular school teachers and she not only became a help-mate to the husband but a true mother to the girls and son. And it can be truly said "that she hath done what she could." Some time ago Charlie's health began failing but he was ever hopeful and even when bedfast he was always planning for his spring work. But alas; all in vain. The Heavely Father cancelled all these plans. Being bedfast only three weeks and seriously ill only twenty-four hours, Saturday he grew steadily worse while the fierce snowstorm raged on the outside and roads all blocked. Everything that loving hands could to do to alleviate his suffering was done and after a weary watch of the loved ones by the bedside all night, he quietly and peacefully closed his eyes on all earthly scenes, at seven o'clock Sunday morning, March 29, 1931.
Charlie was a farmer and as the saying is "Died in the harness," loved his work which was second nature to him. He is gone. His genial presence, his hearty handshake can be heard or felt no more. He had a tender and sympathetic manner which attracted his friends and he will be greatly missed not only in the home but by the Community.
Charlit joined the Methodist Church August 5, 1888. He leaves one brother, A. W. HISEL of Cedar Township and a sister, Mrs. Gertie SINN of Denver, Colo., and a true and faithful wife who has did everything in her power to help him, one son Leonard and daughter Louise of Fairfield and Bernice of Moline, Ill., and many relatives and friends who mourn, but our loss is but Charlie's gain.
