DANNY "DAN" WARD
Fairfield

Danny "Dan" WARD, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2024, in Iowa City, Iowa, at the age of 82 (note: in Johnson Co., IA).

Born on July 12, 1942, in Fairfield, Iowa, Dan graduated with the Ollie High School Class of 1960. He furthered his education by earning an AA Degree from Grand View University in Des Moines, showcasing his commitment to lifelong learning and personal growth.

After college graduation, Dan worked for several years at Rockwell, where he gained a reputation for his strong work ethic and amiable nature. Dan returned to his roots in 1978, taking great pride in continuing the family legacy as a third-generation farmer. He also shared his expertise with others as a paint salesman, always ready with a warm smile and helpful advice.

An avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan, he rarely missed a game and could often be found cheering on his favorite team with the same passion he brought to every aspect of his life. He was also a member of the Eagles, where he contributed to the community and enjoyed the camaraderie of fellow members.

His two beloved cats were a source of joy and companionship, and his love for animals was evident to all who knew him. Dan's hobbies included scrolling on Facebook, connecting with friends and family, and sharing in the collective experience of the digital age. He also looked forward to bowling nights.

Dan was a devoted family man, deeply loved by his wife, Helen WARD, and their children, Julie (Ed) BAKER, Tami (Phil) DRISH, and Mike (Heidi) WARD. His roles as a grandfather and great-grandfather were ones he treasured, sharing in the lives of his grandchildren, Andy (Libby) DRISH, Hazel WARD, Madeline WARD, Ed (Briahnna) BAKER, and Wil (Amy) BAKER, as well as his great-grandchildren, Liam, Nova, Hazel, and Eleanor BAKER, and Lila DRISH.

He is survived by his loving sisters, Shirley WOLF and Marshia (Bob) HUNTER, who will miss his laughter and presence at family gatherings. Dan's life was enriched by the company of his many nieces and nephews, who will carry forward his legacy of kindness.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents, who instilled in him the values of hard work and compassion, and his brother-in-law, Fred WOLF, with whom he shared many cherished memories.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at 11 a.m. in the Prairie View Church near Ollie, Iowa with pastor Steven Lamb officiating. The Fremont Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. an hour before service time at the Prairie View Church on Wednesday with Dan's family present to greet relatives and friends. Memorials may be made to the family.
