Pay Special Tribute To Mrs. C. HERRING At PEO Business Meeting

The annual business meeting of Chapter C, P.E.O. last evening at McElhinny house was featured by an impressive memorial to the late Mrs. Charles HERRING.

The tribute, immediately following the 6:30 o'clock dinner, was given by Mrs. Wilson Reed on behalf of Mrs. HERRING's sister, Mrs. Daisy TROWBRIDGE. Mrs. Reed is a namesake of Mrs. HERRING, and her parents and Mrs. HERRING's parents were friends of long standing. Mrs. Reed paid tribute to the outstanding P.E.O. Sisterhood activities of Mrs. HERRING who served not only as president of Chapter C but was president of Iowa; and a past supreme president. The gift, presented to the chapter by Mrs. TROWBRIDGE as a memorial to her sister, was a seven-piece matched silver service which had been a wedding present to Mr. and Mrs. HERRING from her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Simpson Joseph CHESTER 56 years ago.

The coffee and tea service, complete with silver tray, rested on a special table centered with a jonquil and acacia bouquet in keeping with the chapter colors, yellow and white. The tray will be properly inscribed. Mrs. K. G. Cook, 1949-50 president, accepted the gift on behalf of the chapter.

During the business session the following officers for 1950-51 were elected and installed, Mrs. Cook acting as installing officer; president, Mrs. Ben J. Taylor; vice president, Mrs. Claude Musselman; corresponding secretary, Mrs. H. L. Sellers; recording secretary, Mrs. John Stevens; treasurer, Florence Light; chaplain, Mrs. Wayne Klepinger; and guard, Anna Wheatley (reelection). Mrs. Lyman Evans is retiring treasurer; and Mrs. Tom Shearer, retiring chaplain. Other officers were advanced in rotation.

The year book committee: Mesdames S. P,. Williamson, James Russell, and C. R. Reynolds, are planning to have the calendar ready for distribution at the session opening the new year, March 20. Committees will also be announced by the new president at that time.

Guests for the occasion were Mrs. Gordon Keswick (nee Joy Bangs) of New Jersey, a former member of Chapter C; and the following from HA: Mesdames Wilson Reed, Vern S. Samuelson, and John Montgomery, and Lydia Montgomery.
