DEATHS.

Miss Emma HERRING.

After a protracted illness, Miss Emma HERRING died at the home of her mother, Mrs. Jane HERRING, on West Broadway, on Tuesday, June 15, at eleven-thirty p.m.

Miss HERRING had been an invalid for years, and as she had for several weeks been gradually grown weaker her death was not unexpected by friends and members of the family, and the end came peacefully, being merely a falling asleep, into the sleep that knows no waking.

Emma HERRING has lived in Fairfield during the greater part of her life, and was well known in the city and surrounding country. She has been for years a devoted member of the Congregational church, and, until her health failed, was one of the leading members of the popular choir of that church. She was an earnest christian, helping with all church work whenever her frail health would permit her to do so, and her beautiful, unselfish life was an influence always for good in the circle of her acquaintance. She was also a member of the P. E. O. Sisterhood of this city, and her death is a personal sorrow to every one of the members.

Funeral services were held at one o'clock Thursday afternoon at the HERRING residence on West Broadway, conducted by Rev. Samuel Ross, a life long friend of the family, assisted by Rev. Burch, pastor of the Christian church of this city, and interment was made in Evergreen cemetry. The quantities and loveliness of the floral offering expressed the love and esteem of many friends.
