DAVID RUSSELL HAWORTH
Fairfield

The family is sad to announce the passing of their beloved father, David Russell HAWORTH, a longtime resident of Fairfield, Iowa. David Russell HAWORTH - August 7, 1950 to June 24, 2024.

David was born on August 7, 1950, in Dallas, Texas. He grew up in the northern Texas town of Denison with his three siblings, Dwight, Karen, and Laura HAWORTH. He learned to play the piano when he was 9, showing an early gift for music. He attended the University of Texas at Austin, finding many friends and a local community. He learned Transcendental Meditation on September 17, 1972, and participated in TM-Sidhi programs throughout the 1970s.

He lived many years in Austin and thrived as a musician. His band, Cooder Browne, signed to Willie Nelson's Lone Star record label, released an album in '78, and opened for Willie's Band at his famous Fourth of July Picnics. While touring the country he met and played with Johnny Cash, Kris Kristofferson, Linda Ronstadt, Roy Orbison, Bonnie Raitt, Hank Williams Jr., Lee Roy Parnell, and many others. In the early '80s, his band helped introduce a young Stevie Ray Vaughn when he was still known as "Steven," and he sat in with Stevie's band often when they played in Austin. While living near Austin, in Radiance, TX, he began his family of two children, Sean Brian HAWORTH, and Corinna Bliss HAWORTH GREEN, and thrived as a father as well.

In 1983-84, he attended the Transcendental Meditation community's Taste of Utopia course in Fairfield, Iowa. When Maharishi told the course attendees, "Everyone should move to Fairfield," David took it to heart; he built the golden dome in the TM community of Radiance, TX, and then moved his family to Fairfield in the summer of 1986. He worked for Maharishi International University & MUM for 15 years, helping build the Maharishi School of the Age of Enlightenment, which his children attended, and later worked for Books Are Fun. He took TM Teacher training courses and participated in the Group for a Government course in Washington, DC., in 1991. In his final decade, he served in the Invincible America Assembly program and worked at the University assisting the pundits.

Throughout his 38 years in Fairfield, IA, he continued playing in various bands, writing and recording music. This was his greatest joy.

On June 24, just ten days after a diagnosis of acute myeloid leukemia, David HAWORTH passed away in the company of his daughter. He is remembered by his family; a loving father to Corinna & Sean, grandpa to Jill, Liam & Arwyn, & great-grandpa to Ava. A constant optimist, David was a hopeful, joyful, bright light to everyone. He will be sorely missed and always remembered. His musical genius & pursuit of enlightenment for the world will be his legacy.

There will be a celebration of his life on Saturday, August 31 at 2 pm at the Collective Bakehouse at 400 N. 2nd St. in Fairfield, IA.
