Mrs. Robert JOHNSON Of Fairfield Dies

FAIRFIELD. -- Mrs. Robert JOHNSON, 54 a past president of the Veterans of Foreign Wars auxiliary, died at 7:20 a.m. today.

Death occurred at Ottumwa hospital, where she was taken Thursday night from her home at 501 West Merrill street. She had undergone surgery here May 24 and had been released Sunday.

Besides the presidency Mrs. JOHNSON had held other state offices in the V.F.W. auxiliary. She also was local president and secretary and first district service officer. She was a member of the Lutheran church.

She was Hazel Grace BARNETT, daughter of Arthur and Myrtle BRERETON BARNETT. She was born in Fairfield January 26, 1901 (sic - 1902). On December 24, 1921, she was married to Mr. JOHNSON, who survives.

Besides her husband she leaves a daughter, Mrs. Don DISNEY; a son Robert Earl JOHNSON; her mother, Mrs. Myrtle BARNETT, and a sister, Miss Jessie BARNETT, all of Fairfield, and three grandchildren. A daughter, her father, and sister and a brother preceded her in death.

The body is at the Hoskins funeral home. The service will be Monday at 2 p.m. at the Lutheran church, in charge of the pastor, Dr. Edward A. Piper. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.

Note: Buried beside her daughter, Anna Marie HEIDMAN, in Lot 3rd.117. Her first marriage, to Harry Joseph HEIDMAN, married July 30, 1919, in Fairfield, ended in divorce in September, 1921. Her second husband was Peter Robert JOHNSON, married in December, 1921. Per Jefferson County Births, Hazel was born in 1902, not 1901, and was actually 53 years old when she died.
