... Many friends in this city will learn with regret of the sad affliction which has fallen upon the family of Maj. J. A. P. HAMPSON, in the death of their son and only child, aged about nine. The sad event took place at Detroit, Mich., where Major HAMPSON is now stationed, and was caused by the little fellow having a leg crushed by a street car on the 5th inst., death ensuing the following Sunday. The parents passed through this city last week with the remains of their child, the interment taking place at Indianola (note: in Warren Co., IA.).

Note: Parents Jesse A. P. HAMPSON and Sarah Augusta SPRAY HAMPSON are buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Fairfield, IA, in Lot Old.P.360. On their stone are inscriptions for two children, Alvyn and Jessie. If Alvyn was indeed buried in Indianola then at some point he must have been disinterred and moved to Evergreen; cemetery records here confirm he is buried here. Sister Jessie who died in 1864 at age 8 months was likewise not interred in Evergreen originally (Evergreen didn't exist until May, 1870) but was at some point moved here with her brother and parents.
