JUDITH ANN HUNTER
Fairfield

Judith Ann HUNTER passed away peacefully at her home east of fairfield on December 20, 2023, at the age of 82. She was born on August 28, 1941, in Ottumwa, the daughter of James and Lois FISHER.

She was a 1959 graduate of Cardinal Community schools, and then attended secretarial school. On September 3, 1960, she wed the love of her life, Charles Edward HUNTER, in a ceremony in Eldon, IA. They shared commitment to family and the land, as they farmed together in various locations before settling east of Fairfield.

Judith was devoted to her family, and was a stay-at-home mother when her kids were young. In 1982, Judith found a new avenue for her cooking talents as a caterer at the McElhinny House. Her career then transitioned to the educational field, where she served as a substitute secretary and eventually a full-time secretary at Lockridge Elementary School until her well-deserved retirement.

She served as a 4-H leader for many years, and was a member of the Fairfield Women's Club and the Northside Strippers Quilting Club where she poured her creativity into every stitch and pattern. As the orchestrator of family and friend gatherings, events included hog roasts and square dancing, a tradition she held dear.

Judith's hands were rarely still, as her passion for quilting, needlework, and crafts was evident in every piece she created. Her cake decorating skills were renowned, bringing smiles to countless faces.

Judith's legacy is carried on by her loving son, Dennis HUNTER (Gail) of Batavia; her daughters, Jodie HUNTER of Batavia, and Sandy FARRUGGIO (Robert) of Cambridge, WI; grandchildren Sheena DAVIS (Scott) of Batavia, William LEAGUE of Batavia, Landon SCHROPP (Danielle)of Portland, OR, Sydnee FARRUGGIO of Reno, NV and Stone FARRUGGIO of Minneapolis, MN; five great-grandchildren; and her brother, Jim FISHER of Anamosa. Her extended family and a community of friends also mourn her passing. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles, her parents, and a sister-in-law, Kathy FISHER.

A funeral service to honor and celebrate Judith's life will be held on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at Cranston Family Funeral Home in Fairfield, with pastor Mark Clark officiating. Friends and family are invited to gather for visitation from 10:00 to 11:00 am, an hour prior to the service. Judith will be laid to rest in Batavia Cemetery immediately following the service. Gifts to a memorial to be designated later may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at P.O. Box 189, Fairfield, IA 52556.
