MRS. GREEN ILL

--Mrs. O. W. GREEN, 708 South Second street, is very critically ill at the Jefferson County hospital. She underwent an operation for tumor there two weeks ago and was recovering satisfactority (sic) until yesterday when she suffered a stroke of paralysis.

MRS. GREEN DIED LATE LAST NIGHT

End Came to Fairfield Woman at Hospital After Short Illness

Mrs. O. W. GREEN, 708 South Second street, died last night just before midnight at the Jefferson County hospital, after an illness of two weeks. She had been in ill health for some time and submitted to an operation for the removal of a tumor two weeks ago. Her recovery was progressing favorably until Sunday morning when she suffered a stroke of paralysis and her death became a matter only of time.

Funeral services will be held at the home tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock and will be in charge of Dr. C. L. Tennant of the Methodist church. Interment will be at Evergreen cemetery.

Mrs. GREEN was born December 8 (sic - 6th), 1860 in Walnut township and had lived in Jefferson county all her life. She was the daughter of Thomas and Mary HAWK. She was married December 13, 1882 to Oran W. GREEN and to them were born four children, all of whom are still living. They are Randall and Sylvester T. GREEN of near Salina, Mrs. O. C. GAUMER and Mrs. Flossie BALDWIN of Council Bluffs. She has three grandchildren, Verda YOUNG, Willeen BALDWIN and Ethel GREEN. Of a family of ten, she is the last of seven sisters. The three brothers survive and are: James H. HAWK of Bonaparte, George HAWK of Chicago and Joseph HAWK of Rich Woods.

She united with the Methodist church at Rich Woods thirty years ago and brought her membership to Fairfield thirteen years ago.

GREEN RITES WERE HELD YESTERDAY

Remains Were Laid to Rest In The Evergreen Cemetery

Funeral services for Mrs. W. W. (sic - O. W.) GREEN, who passed away Monday night, at the Jefferson county hospital, were held yesterday afternoon from the home at 708 South Second street.

Preceeding the service, Mrs. C. M. Graham and Mrs. George Young beautifully sang "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere." Dr. C. L. Tennant of the Methodist church then read the short service after which Mrs. Graham and Mrs. Young sang "Going Down the Valley."

The remains were laid to rest in Evergreen cemetery and Ray HAWK Omar HOSKINS, Ben LEATHERS, Rollie LYNN, Jim STEWART and Ed MICK as pall bearers.

Those who attended the funeral from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. William Beattie Jr., of New London; Mr. and Mrs. Rollin LYNN of Columbus Junction; T. C. LYNN of Pleasant Plain, Mr. and Mrs. James STEWART of Ottumwa; Mr. and Mrs. Ed MICK of Ottumwa; Ella Swanson of Des Moines; Mr. and Mrs. Henry HAWK and son of Bonaparte and Mr. and Mrs. REEDER of Lockridge.

Death of Mrs. O. W. GREEN

Following an operation for the removal of a tumor two weeks ago, Mrs. O. W. GREEN, 708 South Second street, died at the county hospital Monday night. Funeral service was held Wednesday in charge of Rev. C. L. Tennant.

Mrs. GREEN was born in Walnut township, this county, in 1860, and was married to O. W. GREEN in 1882. Four children all of whom are living, were born to the couple.

Mrs. O. W. GREEN

Caroline Rebecca HAWK was born December 6, 1860 in Walnut township, and lived in Jefferson county all her life. She was the daughter of Thomas and Mary HAWK. She was married December 13th, 1882 to Oran W. GREEN and their home was blessed with four children, all of whom were with her in her last illness. They are Randall and Sylvester GREEN of near Fairfield, Mrs. O. C. GAUMER of Fairfield and Mrs. Wm. BALDWIN of Council Bluffs and three grandchildren, Willene BALDWIN, Verda YOUNG and Ethel GREEN.

Of a family of thirteen she is the last of nine sisters, one brother died in infancy and three brothers survive and are, Joseph HAWK of near Fairfield, Henry HAWK of Bonapart and George HAWK of Chicago. George HAWK was unable to be here on account of illness, so was Mrs. GREEN's only sister, Mrs. Olive J. CHESTER of Los Angeles, Calif.

She united with the Methodist church at Richwoods, thirty years ago and brought her membership to Fairfield thirteen years ago and remained a faithful member until death claimed her.

Two weeks ago she underwent an operation for the removal of a tumor and her recovery was progressing favorably until Sunday morning when she suffered a stroke of paralysis and her death became a matter only of time.

She was a kind and loving wife and mother and was a friend of all who knew her.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at her home. Dr. C. L. Tennant of the Methodist church conducted the services, after which Mrs. George Young and Mrs. C. M. Graham beautifully sang, "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" and "We're Going Down the Valley One By One." These were here (sic) favorite songs.

The remains were laid to rest in the Evergreen cemetery. Her six nephews were pallbearers.

Mrs. GREEN died June 12 at the Jefferson County hospital.

Note: Buried in Lot 2nd.064. She was Oran's second wife, his first being Ida WHISLER who died in 1881 and was buried in Upper Richwood Cemetery. Oran died in 1926 and was buried with Caroline.
