Jessie GRAY dies at 88

Jessie B. GRAY, 88, 611 S. Second St., died today at 5:30 a.m., at Parkview Care Center. She had been in failing health the past year.

Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Behner Funeral Home with the Rev. Keith Lingwall officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Mrs. GRAY was born July 8, 1892 at Mt. Pleasant, the daughter of James and Ada B. HIGH PURDIE. On April 7, 1915 she married Clinton GRAY at Mt. Pleasant. He died July 27, 1975. Mrs. GRAY had been a resident of Fairfield for over 50 years and was a member of Hawkeye Rebekah Lodge.

She is survived by a son, Walter GRAY of Fairfield; a daughter, Betty SMITH of Douds; 17 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons and one sister.

Donna Orte, president of the VFW Auxiliary, was crowned as the group's 1981 Valentine Queen at the regular meeting of the auxiliary at the VFW Post Home. ...

... Rita Van Der Snick, conductress, draped the charter in memory of Jessie GRAY. The auxiliary voted to give $25 to the Cancer Aid and Research Fund in honor of Mrs. GRAY. ...
