JERRY L. LEAZER
Batavia

Jerry L. LEAZER, beloved father and husband, lover of pie and a practical joker, passed away at 9:55 pm on October 21, 2023 just before the evening news. He was born to parents Guy and Edith LEAZER on Christmas Day, 1939 in Batavia, Iowa. He was the youngest of 12 children, all of whom have preceded him in death.

Jerry married Sharie on the windy day of June 15, 1974 after a courtship involving Maid-rite and multiple strawberry malts. Their children Angela, Stephaine, and Randall were born over the following 7 years. Jerry is remembered by his children for his ability to fix anything, which he honed during his years as an appliance repairman at Leazer TV & Appliance where he worked with his brother Garold. After his time fixing refrigerators professionally was over, he became a rural mail carrier where he drove very fast for very short distances between mailboxes.

In his free time, he taught his children a variety of useful skills. Under his tutelage they learned about raising animals, furniture restoration, hunting and fishing, auto repair, and countless other things they have forgotten they learned from Dad. He was king of the family road trip, traveling to visit extended family all over the country.

After he retired from the postal service, he took up clock making, was an active member of the Masons, added to his stamp collection, and continued traveling with his final trip, a cruise to Alaska with Sharie. He also continued to teach his two grandsons, Liam and Seamus, valuable skills such as how to spray whipped cream into their mouths directly from the can.

He will be fondly remembered by his wife Sharie, daughter Angela, daughter Stephanie and son-in-law Rob FERREE along with their sons Liam and Seamus, son Randall and daughter-in-law Mina LEAZER, son Troy, and countless others who knew him. This is not goodbye, just a "see you later."

Funeral services will be held at 1 pm Saturday, October 28, 2023 at First Baptist Church in Fairfield, Iowa. Burial will be at Batavia Cemetery. Open visitation will be held from 11 am - 1 pm Saturday at church. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church. Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield is assisting the family with arrangements.
