Jay Alan SMITH, 64, of Birmingham, IA passed away on Tuesday, October 17, 2023 at the Jefferson County Health Center. As were Jay's wishes his body has been cremated. A memorial service in his honor will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 20, 2023 at the Bladensburg Christian Church with Larry SMITH officiating. A visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to the service. Friends may leave online condolences at www.cranstonfamilyfuneralhome.com.

Jay Alan SMITH, 64, of Birmingham, IA passed away on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at the Jefferson County Health Center. As were Jay's wishes his body has been cremated. A memorial service in his honor will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 20, 2023, at the Bladensburg Christian Church with Larry SMITH officiating. In remembrance of Jay's love for art and color, please wear vibrant colors to the service. A visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to the service beginning at 10:00 a.m. Memorial contributions in Jay's honor may be directed to First Resources Hope House, 710 Gateway Dr., Ottumwa, IA 52501 or to the Bladensburg Christian Church and mailed c/o Cranston Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 189, Fairfield, IA 52556. Friends may leave online condolences at www.cranstonfamilyfuneralhome.com.

Jay Alan SMITH was born on October 20, 1958, in Ottumwa, IA to Marlin and Wilma FREE SMITH. He attended Pekin High School where he graduated with the Class of 1977. Upon graduation Jay moved to Missouri where he got his teaching certificate from Northwest Missouri State University. Jay always had a passion and talent for art. He pursued that passion at the Colorado Institute of Art in Denver and continued to foster his talent and love of art throughout his life. Jay became the proud adopted father to three children: Anderson "Andie", Nathan, and Sarah. He spent several years in Petaluma, CA before moving back to Iowa. Throughout his life Jay was an avid tennis player. He cared for animals and showed horses, as well as loving the garden and colorful flowers. His memory will live on in the heart and minds of his family and the works of art that he created.

Jay was preceded in death by his mother, Wilma SMITH.

Left to honor his memory are his children, Anderson "Andie" FUNG-SMITH, Nathan FUNG-SMITH, and Sarah FUNG-SMITH; his father, Marlin (Mary) SMITH of Birmingham, IA; three siblings, Larry (Diana) SMITH of Birmingham, IA; Dennis SMITH of Birmingham, IA, and David SMITH of Cedar Rapids, IA, as well as many extended family and friends.
